George Louis Waters

Mr. George Louis Waters, age 80, 102 Sheridan Drive, NW, Rome, passed away Saturday evening, February 20, 2010 in a local hospital.

Mr. Waters was born in Bartow County on April 9, 1929, son of the late Jim J. and Matilda Jenkins Waters. He was also preceded in death by his wife, the former Willie Mae Culberson on March 6, 2004, by a great grandchild, Brady Lee Waters, by a sister, Ruby Mae Waters, and by 4 brothers, Johnny, James, J. C., and Woodrow Waters. Mr. Waters spent many years in the insurance profession, primarily with United Insurance Co. of America. Prior to his retirement, he owned and operated Waters Auto Sales and South Broad Motors, both here in Rome. He attended the Shannon Church of God.

Survivors include his son, Ricky Waters, and his wife, Freda, Ft. Payne, AL; 4 grandchildren, Jesse Waters, David Pierce, Jason Pierce, and Christine Pierce, all of Ft. Payne, AL; a great grandchild, Hannah Mae Waters, Atlanta; 4 special nieces, Ms. Misty Milam, Rome, Ms. Nancy Waters, Shannon, Ms. Kathy Waters, Shannon, and Mrs. Judy Hicks, Lindale; other nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at 2pm in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Alan Fuller and the Rev. Jackie Culberson officiating. Interment will follow in Oakland Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home on Monday evening from 6 until 8pm. At other hours, they may be contacted at the residence.

Pallbearers are requested to assemble at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home on Tuesday at 1:30pm and include: David Pierce, Jason Pierce, Clint Hicks, Freddie Stewart, Jerry Daniel, and Rick Hastings.
