Rev. Leon Miller Towe, age 89, of 1805 High Street, Rome, passed away on Monday, March 1, 2010, at a local hospital.
Rev. Towe was born in Bartow County on August 10, 1920, son of the late Bessie Towe and the late Taylor Hight. He was also preceded in death by a brother and by a sister. Rev. Towe was a bi-vocational Pastor, having been employed for over 20 years with Floyd County Public Works while pastoring several churches in our area. Ordained as a Baptist Minister many years ago, Rev. Towe served as Pastor at the Calhoun Avenue Baptist Church and the Sunnyside Baptist Church, both here in Rome, and the Dry Creek Baptist Church in Adairsville, as well as others. He was a member of the McFall Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, the former Sarah Ruth Kelley, to whom he was married on October 30, 1943; a daughter, Mrs. Lynda Williams, and her husband, Alvin, Chatsworth; a son, David Towe, and his wife, Angela, Gaylesville, AL; 2 sisters, Mrs. Mary Hooker and Mrs. Jeanette Pulliam, both of Dalton; a brother, Donald Hight, Dalton; a granddaughter, Ms. Kim Hall, Chatsworth; a great grandson, Zachary Hall, Chatsworth; 2 step-grandchildren, Mrs. Ashley Steele, and her husband, Chris, Centre, AL, and Jeremy Slayton, and his wife, Ashley, Anniston, AL; nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 4, 2010 at 2pm in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Dewey Atchley officiating. Interment will follow in Floyd Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home on Wednesday evening from 6 until 8pm. At other hours, they may be contacted at each of their respective homes.
Pallbearers are requested to assemble at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home on Thursday at 1:30pm and include: Gene Wallace, Vernon Wallace, Wayne Towe, Chris Ogles, Arlie Warren, Dennis Wilson and Albert Day.
Henderson & Sons Funeral Home has charge of the funeral arrangements.
