Mr. Edward Roy Wilson, age 85, of Lindale, passed away on Friday, July 16, 2010, at his residence.

Mr. Wilson was born in Polk County on December 9, 1924, son of the late Roy Wilson and the late Mattie Mae Lasiter Wilson. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Louise Mitchell. Mr. Wilson served as a combat engineer in World War II having participated in both the D-Day invasion and the battle of St. Lo, France. He was a member of the American Legion Post #136 in Lindale. Mr. Wilson graduated from the Carol Lynn Business College and was employed for 46 years at Lindale Manufacturing having retired in 1988. He was also a licensed Master Barber for over 50 years.

Survivors include his wife, the former Helen Marie Wood, to whom he was married on December 2, 1946; three sons, Jerry Wilson and his wife, Nim, Menlo, Danny Wilson and his wife, Debbie, Rome, and Mike Wilson and his wife, Jennifer, Rome; five grandchildren, Eddie, Michael, and Scott, of Rome, and Stacey and Jessica of Menlo; five great grandchildren; three step-great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Dean Wood, and Mrs. Elizabeth Stroud, both of Rome; a brother, Billy Wilson, Hinesville; nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held on Monday, July 19, 2010, at 2pm at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Greg Bridges officiating. The American Legion Post #5 Honor Guard will present military honors.

The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home on Sunday from 3 until 5pm. At other hours they may be contacted at their respective homes.

Pallbearers are asked to assemble at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home on Monday at 1pm and include: Grandsons; Eddie, Michael, and Scott, and Nephews; Will Wood, Dennis Wilson, and Terry Stroud.
