Nell Shirey

Mrs. Nell Shirey, age 91, 3715 Blacks Bluff Road, Rome, passed away Friday, July 23, 2010, in a local hospital.

Mrs. Shirey was born in Dekalb County, AL on May 19, 1919, daughter of the late William and Hattie Sanford Formby. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Wayne Shirey on June 1, 1968. Mrs. Shirey retired from Pet Bakery here in Rome after having been employed for 28 years with Rome Provision. She attended the Vann's Valley United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her daughter, Mrs. Kaye Jones, and her husband, Gilbert, Cleveland, TN; 3 sons, J. Frank Shirey, Rome, Rickey Lee Shirey, Rome, and Keith Shirey, and his wife, Mandy, Cedartown; 12 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, 10 great-great grandchildren; nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 26, 2010 at 2pm in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home. The Rev. Herman Stamey and the Rev. Jerry Chisolm will officiate. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home on Sunday evening from 6 until 8pm.

Pallbearers are requested to assemble at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home on Monday at 1:30pm and include: Lamar Shirey, Delynn Graham, Chad Terry, Rodney Abbott, Derrick Abbott, and Joseph Abbott.

Henderson & Sons Funeral Home has charge of the funeral arrangements.
