Flavil Brooks Jones, Jr.

Mr. Flavil Brooks "F. B." Jones, Jr., age 63, of 214 Oreberg Road, Rome, passed away on Monday, July 26, 2010, at his home, surrounded by his family and friends, following a year long battle with cancer.

Mr. Jones was born in Floyd County on July 1, 1947, son of Inez Jones Mathis and the late Flavil B. Jones, Sr. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving during the Vietnam War. Mr. Jones was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church in Rosedale, the Floyd County Vietnam Veterans, and the V. F. W. Prior to retirement, he worked as an inspector at ITT Lester. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Miss Tammy Sue Jones, and by a sister, Miss Brenda Gail Jones.

Survivors include his wife, the former Nancy Courson, to whom he was married on July 1, 1967; 2 daughters, Ms. Rhonda G. Jones and her fiance', Tim Robinson, and Ms. Kimberly A. Jones and her fiance', Richard Neese; grandchildren, Bryan & Dillon Walker, Brandy Hulsey, Jonathon & Brittany Harp, and Lacey & Katie Beth Robinson; his mother, Mrs. Inez Jones Mathis.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 31, 2010, at 12 noon in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Mark Butler and the Rev. Michael Westmoreland officiating. Interment will follow in the Flint Hill Baptist Church Cemetery with the American Legion Post #5 Honor Guard presenting military honors.

The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home on Friday from 6 until 8pm. At other hours they will be at the residence.

Both active and honorary pallbearers are asked to assemble at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home on Saturday at 11:30am and include: Bryan Walker, Dillon Walker, Jonathon Harp, Chris Nelson, Robert Blalock, and Mike Courson. Honorary: Larry Sexton, David Carter, David Davis, and the Floyd County Vietnam Veterans.
