Mr. Jack Lewis Van Es, age 87, 9 Hickory Mountain Road, Lindale, passed away Sunday morning, February 7, 2010, in a local hospital.
Mr. Van Es was born in Fargo, North Dakota on March 5, 1922, son of the late Jake and Bess Davenport Van Es. Retiring from the United States Navy following 20 years of service, he served in the Pacific Theater of Operations during World War II and served during the Korean era. Following his retirement from military service, he was employed for 15 years with Delta Airlines as a jet mechanic. Upon his move to Rome in 1990, he was employed with Darlington School in facility services for over 7 years. Mr. Van Es was of the Protestant faith.
Survivors include his dear friend and companion of 19 years, Mrs. Bernice Murphy, Rome; his son, Coach Jim Van Es, and his wife, April, Rome; 2 daughters, Mrs. Maureen Van Es Crowe, and her husband, Jim, St. George Island, FL, and Mrs. Susan Fritzson, St. Joseph, Missouri; 4 grandchildren, Katie Van Es, San Diego, CA, Jenna Marie Van Es, Tuscaloosa, AL, Ron Crowe, and his wife, Amanda, Grayson, GA, and Karen Crowe, Tampa, FL; a great grandson, James Crowe, Grayson, GA.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 8, 2010 at 4pm in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home. The Rev. Larry Davis will officiate with his son, Coach Jim Van Es delivering the eulogy. Private interment will follow in Rome Memorial Park with the American Legion Post 5 Honor Guard extending military rites.
The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home on Monday from 2:30pm until the service hour. At other hours, they may be contacted at each of their respective homes.
